U.S. FOREIGN SERVICE INSTITUTE (FSI) COURSES

Developed and produced by the U.S. Department of State for personnel training; the methodology is audio-lingual meaning emphasis is on the spoken word and extensive, repetitive drill is required on phonetics and fundamental structure. The object is automaticity in the basic features of the target language.

In addition to the frequently studied Western European languages FSI courses are available in many African, Near Eastern and Far Eastern languages.

These are not fun courses. They are, frankly, for those with long term motivation. Most will take several months to master on a self-study basis. All titles available on special order. Most courses will contain 12 or more cassettes and all have complete explanatory texts. Most are priced at or above $200.
