Audio Divine Comedy:

Dante Alighieri La Divina Commedia Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso (projected to be) read complete in Italian. We will be releasing cantos in order (1 through 100) starting in July, 1998. This will be a digital remastering of an archival Italian language original with very brief introduction to each canto in English. Each 60 minute tape will contain (about) 5-6 cantos. Price will be uniformly $10 per tape and any tape can be bought separately. It appears that there will be about 17-19 tapes total. We are very hopeful that we will receive the minimum market support needed to make it posssible for us to complete this project and to do so before the end of this year. Because there are many bi-lingual texts readily available in the United States and many more mono-lingual critical editions in Italy we will not initially offer any specific text.

An appreciation of Dante's majestic synthesis of the medieval/ Catholic Weltanschauung in the original Italian by an American (or even an Italian ) student/ reader is a personal accomplishment unlikely to take place without a written text. We find especially useful John Sinclair's prose translation in three volumes, (paperback, Oxford University Press). Sinclair offers a facing fairly literal translation of the Italian text and offers detailed summaries of the individual cantos with notes on less familiar names and concepts.
